Institute of Space Technology (Islamabad)

Over the last hundred years, technology has steadily advanced, significantly improving modern society. Among these advancements, space science has played a crucial role in transforming our path toward progress. Recognizing its impact, stakeholders aimed to match global standards through focused space education.

In 2002, leaders decided to launch a specialized institute dedicated to space and allied sciences. As a result, the Institute of Space Technology (IST) began operations in September 2002. Initially, IST offered undergraduate programs in Aerospace Engineering and Communication Systems Engineering.

By Fall 2008, IST introduced a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering. Additionally, it started a graduate program in Communication Engineering the same year. Then in Fall 2011, IST replaced Communication Systems Engineering with Electrical Engineering at the undergraduate level.

IST aspires to lead nationally in academics through quality education, innovation, and outreach. Its goal is to develop future leaders in Space Science and Technology, aligned with national goals.
