The inauguration of Bacha Khan Medical College took place on January 1, 2010, in the upscale area of Sheikh Maltoon Town, Mardan. It was named in honor of the renowned freedom fighter, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, also known as Bacha Khan.
In 2010, BKMC became the first public sector medical college to receive recognition from the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council in its first year. The college has been affiliated with KMU Peshawar since its establishment. In 2011, the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) granted accreditation for postgraduate training in major disciplines at MMC Teaching Hospital.
Today, Mardan is a district that blends industrial and agricultural sectors, with the city rapidly emerging as an educational hub. It is home to institutions such as AWKUM, BKMC, UET campus, and the Agricultural University campus. A new block has been constructed and is fully operational, featuring a Student Affairs Section, a Guest Waiting Area, separate cafeterias for male and female students, a new Lecture Theatre, faculty offices, and a 250-capacity auditorium.
The auditorium is named “Haider Hall” in honor of Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, the former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, acknowledging his significant contributions to the college. Additionally, work is underway on a state-of-the-art, purpose-built building, which is expected to be completed. Currently, the construction of the 200-bed Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Children’s Hospital is underway and is expected to be completed soon.

The college aims to train students using best practices, addressing society’s health needs while emphasizing professionalism, research, and health advocacy.

The vision is to become a leading regional health center, dedicated to enhancing individual and community health and meeting both national and international standards of excellence.
Courses and Programs
The college has an admission capacity of 100 students for the MBBS program and 50 for the BDS program. Presently, three batches of MBBS students, totaling 168, and the first batch of 50 BDS students are enrolled. Courses and program offered by Bacha Khan Medical College:
