In a massive step toward modernizing the education system, the Punjab government has officially announced plans to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) education across all public sector schools, spanning from Class 1 to Class 12.
The landmark decision was finalized during a high-level meeting on provincial education reforms chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Key Highlights of the New Education Policy:
- AI from Elementary to Higher Secondary: Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence at the earliest stages of schooling, continuing the curriculum progressively all the way up to intermediate level (Class 12).
- Dedicated Tech Labs: To ensure practical learning, the government has directed relevant authorities to establish specialized AI and computer laboratories alongside the rollout of the new subject.
- 25% Reduction in Textbook Burden: In a major relief for students weighed down by heavy bags, the government is cutting down overall textbook volumes by 25%. The curriculum is shifting away from traditional rote memorization toward concept-based learning.
- Smart Textbooks with QR Codes: The revamped textbooks will feature embedded QR codes, allowing students to instantly scan and access digital video lessons, interactive tutorials, and supplementary guides for complex topics.
- Weekly Teacher Training Programs: To ensure the smooth implementation of the digital curriculum, the government has approved dedicated weekly training sessions. Notably, the authors of the new textbooks will personally train educators on how to effectively teach the updated material.
