All About Lahore School of Economics (LSE)

Lahore School of Economics

Thinking about applying to LSE Lahore? Here’s everything you need before you fill that form — fees, entry test pattern, scholarships, and an honest take on campus life.

About Lahore School of Economics

LSE is a private, HEC-recognized university in Lahore. It was founded in 1993 and got its charter from the Punjab Assembly in 1997. The main campus sits on Burki Road, at the intersection with DHA Phase VI.

A few basics before you go further:

  • Type: Private, chartered, degree-awarding institution
  • Co-education: Yes, fully co-ed across every program
  • HEC status: Recognized and accredited
  • Levels offered: Undergraduate, MBA, MS/MPhil, and PhD
  • City office: 104-C-II, Gulberg III, Lahore (for admissions queries)

LSE built its name on economics and business, but it’s grown into a much wider place now — you’ll find math, statistics, media studies, environmental science, and even fine arts here.

Programs and Degrees at LSE

Almost every undergrad degree at LSE comes as a major-minor or double-major combo. That’s a bit different from most Pakistani universities, so pay attention when you’re picking a program — the second subject matters for your career too.

Undergraduate (4 years, 126–165 credit hours):

  • BBA — Finance or Marketing, paired with a minor (Data Analytics, Math & Statistics, Media Studies, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Economics, Communication Design, and more)
  • BS Double Major — Economics with Finance, Data Analytics, Math, Business Management, Accounting, Marketing, or Political Science
  • BS Double Major — Accounting & Finance, Math & Data Analytics, Math & Statistics, Statistics & Accounting
  • BS Social Sciences — English, Political Science, or Public Policy as major, with a minor
  • BS Media Studies — with a minor in Marketing, English, Political Science, Business Management, or Visual Arts
  • BS Environmental Science — minor in Economics or Business Management
  • BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in Visual Arts — needs an art aptitude test on top of regular admission requirements

Graduate programs:

  • MBA — 2-year (for non-business grads) and 1.5-year (for BBA/BS business grads with CGPA 2.5+)
  • Executive MBA — 2.5 years, 68 credit hours, built for working professionals with 3+ years of experience
  • MS/MPhil (2 years) — Economics, Business Administration, Development Studies, Environmental Science & Policy

Doctoral:

  • PhD in Economics and PhD in Business Administration (3 years)

Note: the BFA is the outlier here — LSE isn’t just a business school anymore, and the art program has its own separate testing track.

LSE Fee Structure

Fees are billed by credit hour and vary a bit by program, but here’s a realistic estimate for planning purposes:

ItemEstimated Cost
Tuition per semester (BS/BBA)~Rs. 341,000
Total for 4-year degree (8 semesters)~Rs. 2.7–2.8 million
Application form feeRs. 7,500
Application processing feeRs. 7,500

Both the form fee and processing fee are one-time and due when you submit your application — before you even sit the entry test.

On installments: LSE bills semester-wise, not monthly. If you genuinely can’t pay the full semester fee upfront, you can request a payment plan from the accounts office, but it’s approved case by case, not automatic. Don’t count on it — apply for a scholarship instead if cost is a real concern.

Admissions: How to Apply

Eligibility for undergrad: 60% marks in Matric/FSc, or equivalent in O/A Levels (IBCC equivalence needed). Max one gap year allowed. BFA applicants also need to clear an art aptitude test.

Eligibility for MBA: 16 years of education, minimum CGPA 2.5 or 60% marks. Non-business grads go into the 2-year MBA; BBA/BS business grads go into the 1.5-year track.

Eligibility for MS/MPhil/PhD: Varies by program — generally CGPA 3.0 and a subject-specific HAT test (Management Sciences, Social Sciences, or Physical Sciences depending on your area) plus a Lahore School admissions test.

Here’s the step-by-step:

  1. Create an online account at LSE’s admissions portal and fill the application form.
  2. Pay the Rs. 7,500 form fee and Rs. 7,500 processing fee.
  3. Attach attested Matric/FSc marksheets, CNIC/B-Form, and a photo.
  4. Sit the LSE entrance test — unless you have a SAT I score of 1200+ (with 600+ in Math), which lets you skip it entirely for undergrad.
  5. Clear the interview panel at the main campus.

Entry test format: English essay writing, analytical reasoning, and basic math. There’s no fixed syllabus — brush up on your FSc-level math and practice timed essay writing, that’s usually enough.

Typical calendar (dates shift slightly each year):

  • Forms open: early January
  • Submission deadline: late June
  • Entrance test: early July
  • Interviews: mid-to-late July
  • Classes begin: late August for A-Level students, late September for FSc students

Always check the official LSE admissions page for the exact dates in your intake year — this changes annually.

Scholarships at LSE

LSE’s scholarship system is genuinely more detailed than most private unis in Pakistan. Worth reading closely if fee is a concern.

  • Need-Based Scholarship: Up to 50% tuition waiver. You’ll need 75%+ in Intermediate/O-A Levels, a financial assistance form, and a home verification visit. Drop below CGPA 3.0 and it’s gone; between 3.0–3.49 you get bumped down to 25%.
  • Major Merit Scholarship: 50% waiver for 85%+ scorers (maintain CGPA 3.75+), or 25% waiver for 80%+ scorers (maintain CGPA 3.5+). This isn’t stackable with the need-based one.
  • Minor Merit Scholarship: Fee waiver on a single course if you hit CGPA 3.5 (first term) or 4.0 (later years). This one can stack with the major scholarship.
  • Student TA-ships: Available from 2nd year onward if your CGPA is 3.75+. Comes with tuition credit for one course, and stacks with other scholarships.
  • Graduate/PhD scholarships: MBA students can get similar merit-based waivers; MS/MPhil/PhD students with CGPA 3.0+ can get 100% tuition waivers in the first term, continued if they maintain that CGPA.

Bottom line: merit scholarships are real and generous at LSE, but they come with strict CGPA maintenance clauses. Slip once and you lose a chunk of the waiver.

Campus Life & Culture

The main campus has AC classrooms, computer labs, and both physical and digital libraries. Nothing flashy, but functional.

Hostel: Available, but mainly for outstation female students — shared double rooms. If you’re a guy coming from outside Lahore, you’re mostly on your own for housing.

Transport & food: LSE runs bus routes across major parts of Lahore, so commuting isn’t a nightmare. Cafeteria food is decent and affordable — nothing gourmet.

The vibe, honestly: LSE runs a tight ship. Attendance policy is strict, workload is heavy, and it’s not a place to coast. If you want a relaxed uni experience, this isn’t it — but if you want to actually learn and build a CV, the rigor pays off.

LSE vs. LUMS vs. FAST-NU:

  • LUMS has more name recognition and campus diversity, but costs almost double what LSE does for a similar business/finance reputation.
  • FAST-NU wins hands down for core software engineering — LSE doesn’t really compete there. But for finance, business analytics, and marketing, LSE holds its own against FAST.
  • If your budget is tight and you want a business-focused degree with solid placement, LSE offers a better cost-to-outcome ratio than LUMS.

Career Prospects

LSE grads land jobs at FMCGs, banks, fintech startups, and consultancies. Big-name recruiters include Unilever, Nestlé, HBL, and McKinsey’s network partners. Starting salaries for fresh grads typically fall between Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 150,000/month, depending on the role and sector.
