University of Baltistan, Skardu

The University of Baltistan, Skardu began its journey on August 25, 2017. It was established under the “University of Baltistan Order 2016” as a federal public university. Importantly, the institution welcomes everyone regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity, or background. Initially, the university operated as a sub-campus of Karakoram International University in 2011. At that time, it offered four departments: Computer Science, Modern Languages, Business Management, and Educational Development. Later in 2017, the Department of Biological Sciences was added, raising the total to five departments.

Today, the university remains the only higher education institute in Skardu offering a wide range of degrees. Consequently, it provides vital academic opportunities to students at local, national, and global levels. At present, it admits students in BS and Master’s programs across multiple disciplines. These include Computer Science, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, and Business Management. Additionally, the university offers programs in Tourism and Hospitality, Environmental Science, and Educational Development.

We aim to lead globally in environmental care and sustainable growth. Our focus is to protect the unique natural assets of Gilgit-Baltistan. Moreover, we strive to safeguard the Third Pole, South Asia’s Water Towers, and towering mountain ranges for posterity.

We seek to promote research, innovation, and community service in eco-conservation and sustainable resource use. Furthermore, we support the region’s cultural legacy and economic well being through environment friendly technologies.
