Sindh Madresatul Islam University

Sindh Madressatul Islam University, SMIU is a chartered institution recognized by Pakistan Higher Education Commission (HEC). Established in the 19th century, it stands among South Asia’s oldest educational establishments. Notably, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah studied here from 1887 to 1892 for over four years.

Located near I.I. Chundrigar Road in Karachi, the campus lies close to Habib Bank Plaza and MCB Tower. Covering over eight acres, the campus features stunning colonial-era buildings designed by James Strachan in the 1880s. These heritage structures reflect a blend of history and architectural elegance.

Initially, SMI University launched five academic departments offering graduate and undergraduate programs. These include Media and Communication Studies, Business Administration, Computer Science, Education, and Environmental Sciences. Each department focuses on producing competent professionals for a dynamic and evolving world.
