FATA University is a public institution located in Akhorwal within the Tribal Sub Division of Darra Adam Khel, Kohat District, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The Higher Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa oversees its operations.
In May 2013, Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister, Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, granted official approval for the university. This marked the establishment of the first university in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
FATA University is currently operating from a section of the Government Degree College in Darra Adam Khel, located along the Indus Valley Highway connecting Peshawar and Kohat. Meanwhile, construction of a permanent campus is underway in Akhorwal, covering 58.25 acres of land. In the future, the university intends to establish additional sub campuses in Khar, Miran Shah, and Parachinar, alongside its primary location in Akhorwal.
