The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has opened applications for the National Research Program for Universities (NRPU) 2026–27, inviting researchers and faculty members from eligible higher education institutions to submit research proposals.
The program aims to support high-quality, innovative, and impactful research that can contribute to scientific development, society, and Pakistan’s economy.
HEC NRPU 2026–27 Research Areas
Researchers can submit proposals across a broad range of disciplines, including:
- Social, Behavioral, Economic and Human Sciences
- Natural and Emerging Sciences
- Product, Process and Technology Development
HEC’s NRPU program supports both basic and applied research, with proposals expected to demonstrate research quality and potential impact.
Important Changes in NRPU 2026–27
HEC has issued updates to the current NRPU call, including changes to some of the previously announced requirements.
One important clarification is that there is no Rs. 5,000 application processing fee for the NRPU 2026–27 call.
HEC has also clarified the eligibility position for universities with delayed or unsettled NRPU cases. Universities with more than five delayed or unsettled cases can apply, subject to meeting the other applicable requirements.
