About the University of Child Health Sciences Lahore
The University of Child Health Sciences (UCHS), Lahore is a public-sector institution focused on child health education, medical research, healthcare leadership, and specialized training. For students searching for child health universities in Pakistan, medical universities in Lahore, and opportunities in pediatric healthcare education, UCHS represents a specialized academic initiative in Punjab’s healthcare sector.
The university’s development was linked to the long-term vision of strengthening child healthcare education and research in Pakistan. The concept was initially proposed by Prof. Masood Sadiq, who was serving as Dean of the Institute of Child Health. The proposal was first presented during the Annual Symposium of The Children’s Hospital on 2 March 2018.
How the University Was Established
The proposal gained renewed attention during a convocation ceremony on 11 December 2018, where the idea received support from the provincial health leadership. The initiative was subsequently taken forward through the relevant government departments.
On 25 March 2019, the concept received approval during a visit to the hospital by the Chief Minister of Punjab. Following this approval, the Dean formally submitted the proposal to the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department in April 2019.
The project was later included in the 2019–20 Annual Development Programme as an unapproved development scheme with an estimated cost of PKR 4 billion. The Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP) was assigned a role in the execution process, while preparation of the PC-1 began.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic affected development activities and caused delays in the progress of the project.
