Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), Islamabad was founded by an Act of Parliament on March 21, 2013. Subsequently, the Chancellor President of Pakistan appointed the first Vice Chancellor on January 7, 2014, following the Search Committee’s recommendations.
SZABMU primary teaching hospital is the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), a leading tertiary care facility in Islamabad. Moreover, the Federal Medical College and School of Dentistry serve as its constituent academic institutions. Alongside them, the Dental Hospital is also affiliated for clinical training.
Currently, over 20 institutes in the Federal Capital, including medical, dental, and allied health sciences colleges, are affiliated with SZABMU.
Since establishment, SZABMU has unified healthcare curricula and introduced transparency in exams and degree awards. Furthermore, it has ensured academic merit in both undergraduate and postgraduate education.
Over the past seven years, faculty and scholars have published extensively in national and international indexed journals. These research contributions reflect SZABMU’s strong emphasis on quality and innovation.
The university offers structured residency training in 40 specialties across Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry, and Allied Health Sciences. In addition, M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs in Basic Medical Sciences align with HEC’s academic framework.
