About NUML Islamabad

National University of Modern Languages (NUML) is a public-sector federal university located in Sector H-9, Islamabad. It began as a language training institute and later became a full university. HEC recognizes every degree it awards.

NUML is co-education. The main campus sits in the heart of Islamabad, with regional campuses in Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Hyderabad and Mirpur (AJ&K). Students from all provinces study here.

BS Computer Science, BS Software Engineering, BS Artificial Intelligence and BS Information Technology. All are 4-year programs.

Admissions Process & How to Apply

Admissions open twice a year for Fall and Spring. Everything happens online.

Eligibility at a glance

• Computing and Engineering: 50–60% in Intermediate (FSc Pre-Engineering, ICS or Pre-Medical with Maths deficiency).
• Languages, Social Sciences and BBA: 45% in any Intermediate group.
• A-Level or foreign students need IBCC equivalence.

NUML university runs its own entrance test for most degree seats. Some applicants can use valid HEC or NTS scores, but the university test is still common. Interviews follow for certain programs.

Campus Life, Hostel & Facilities

The H-9 campus is busy and fully co-education. You will find computer labs, dedicated language labs, a central library, auditorium, mosque, cafeterias and sports facilities including a gymnasium. Computing labs are functional for regular coursework. Transport runs on selected routes covering Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Wah/Taxila (paid).

Hostel seats for boys and girls are limited at the main campus. Apply through Students Affairs after paying the first semester fee. Rooms are basic but secure. Many students prefer nearby private hostels.

Class timings usually run morning (8 am–1:30 pm) or afternoon (3:30–7 pm). Food is simple and affordable. The overall vibe is serious and study-focused – strong on languages and regular attendance rather than a party atmosphere.

Honest view
Pros: Recognized degrees, excellent language options, multiple campuses, solid scholarships and lower fees than private alternatives.
Cons: Hostel seats fill fast, computing fees sit on the higher side for a public university, and research facilities are not at the level of Quaid-i-Azam or NUST.

Compared with Quaid-i-Azam University, NUML university offers far more language strength and slightly more applied programs. Against FAST or NUST it is cheaper for non-computing degrees and much stronger in languages.

Graduates find work in embassies, media houses, translation agencies, teaching, banks, IT firms and government departments. Starting salaries match the usual public-university range in Islamabad.
