Shaheed Allah Buksh Soomro University of Art, Design and Heritages is Pakistan’s first public art university. It welcomes students from across the country, promoting diversity and creative excellence nationwide. Originally, this institution functioned as the Centre of Excellence in Arts and Design (CEAD), Jamshoro. Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed first envisioned this project. She aimed to create a premier art institute in Sindh like the National College of Arts, Lahore.
At the beginning, the Federal College of Art and Design (FCAD) operated under the University of Sindh. Later, on April 11, 2000, Mehran University’s Project Directorate took charge of its development. In August 2004, the Federal Ministry of Education transformed FCAD into CEAD, MUET, Jamshoro. This change also shifted academic control from Sindh University to Mehran University.
Federal Minister Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah assigned Prof. A.R. Nagori to develop the project.
Earlier, the government approved this initiative on March 8, 1991. On July 15, 1992, Governor Mr. Mehmood A. Haroon laid the foundation stone in Jamshoro. Thus, the journey of Pakistan’s first public art university began with a visionary idea and dedication.
