Established on 31st October 2015, the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) operates as a federal public university. The President of Pakistan serves as its Chancellor, while the Chief of Army Staff acts as Pro-Chancellor. NUMS was founded to lead excellence in advanced health education, research, and quality healthcare services. Moreover, it benefits from a vast network of 45 military hospitals and several specialized institutes and colleges. This includes 10 specialty centers, 9 medical colleges, and 4 dental institutions across the country. Additionally, NUMS runs 6 nursing colleges and 3 allied health sciences institutes, serving as Pakistan’s largest healthcare system.

The university actively supports undergraduate and postgraduate education in various medical and allied disciplines. These include Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Allied Health, and Veterinary Sciences. Furthermore, NUMS integrates Social Sciences and Liberal Arts into its multidisciplinary curriculum. Its faculty aims to establish a university-led healthcare system aligned with modern education and service standards.

To meet its objectives, NUMS adopts international best practices in education, research, and clinical training. At the same time, it focuses on upgrading the nation’s medical infrastructure. Ultimately, these efforts contribute to broad socio-economic growth within Pakistan and across international borders.
