The University of Home Economics (UHE), Lahore, began its journey in 1955 as a college. It was established in collaboration with Oklahoma University, USA, focusing on curriculum and teacher development. The college aimed to equip female students with essential life skills and professional knowledge. Within a decade, it introduced MSc, B.Ed, and C.T. programs to expand its academic offerings.
A significant transformation occurred on 8th February 2017 when it gained university status through Punjab Assembly legislation. Later, on 31st May 2019, Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen assumed office as UHE’s first Vice Chancellor. Under her leadership, the university advanced toward producing skilled, cultured, and industry-ready graduates.
To promote global engagement, UHE signed MoUs with various national and international institutions. These include Hakim Sabzevari University (Iran), NLPD, LCCI, and WCCI. These partnerships support academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and stronger ties with the industry.
