The University of Balochistan (UOB) began its journey in October 1970 under a special ordinance. Later in June 1996, the Balochistan Assembly formalized it through the University of Balochistan Act. Eventually, in 2022, the Provincial Assembly introduced a unified act for all public universities. As a result, the University now operates under this consolidated law. It stands as Balochistan’s largest general university, offering higher education across sciences, arts, and humanities.
Over time, the institution has grown steadily and significantly. Currently, it includes six faculties and fifty-two academic departments. Additionally, it houses six specialized centers and fifty-seven affiliated colleges. There are also three institutes, four regional campuses, and one constituent law college. At first, the university offered programs only in Physics, Chemistry, and Geology. Gradually, it added more departments to meet the region’s growing academic demands.
