Baqai Medical University

The Baqai Foundation and University, founded in 1976, serves as the supreme policy-making authority. It plays a crucial role in overseeing and offering guidance for various projects, both completed and ongoing. For over 60 years, Prof. Dr. Fareeduddin Baqai, Prof. Dr. Zahida Baqai, and their skilled teams have successfully executed outstanding initiatives. These projects span diverse fields such as Human Development, Poverty Alleviation, Medical Education, Healthcare, Food and Nutrition, Environmental Protection, and more complex challenges.

In the 1960s, Prof. Dr. Baqai initiated the first major project: a 350-bed healthcare facility aimed at serving low- and middle-income communities. This facility also provided care to charity patients. Baqai Hospital in Nazimabad offered high-quality, affordable medical services that were scarce at the time.

Baqai Hospital marked Pakistan’s first private-sector social venture, with a strong emphasis on medical research and education. From the beginning, the Baqai Foundation International recognized the critical gap between a rapidly growing population and the limited healthcare options available in the region.
