Hazara University (HU), a public institution in the Hazara Division, actively pursues the generation and application of knowledge. Its breathtaking natural surroundings and scenic location offer an exceptional environment for learning and research. The University is committed to fostering intellectual growth and personal development among students within this enriching atmosphere.
In 1995, the Higher Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the University Grants Commission collaboratively prepared the initial draft of the Hazara University. Later, on April 29, 1997, the Provincial Assembly of the then-North West Frontier Province (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) passed the Act establishing the University.
In 2001, the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took decisive action to operationalize the University. The premises, previously occupied by the Neuropsychiatry Hospital in Dhodial and the Agriculture Department, were allocated for this purpose. Moreover, on April 14, 2002, the institution was officially inaugurated by the Governor, serving as its Chancellor. Over the past two decades, the University has made significant progress and accomplished numerous milestones.
Among its key achievements is the promotion of higher education across the Hazara Division. Two of its campuses have since evolved into full-fledged universities. Additionally, with the support of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), a campus was launched in Battagram, a remote district of the province. Since its founding, Hazara University has played a transformative role in the educational landscape of both the region and the country. Today, it stands as one of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s leading academic institutions.
