Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) traces its roots back to 1951. It began as the Government College for Women, aiming to provide intermediate education to female students. In 1952, the institution introduced FSc classes, followed by the launch of BSc programs in 1960. That same year, the college secured affiliation with the University of the Punjab for its undergraduate studies.
In 1989, the college advanced to the postgraduate level. It began offering Master’s programs in English, Urdu, and Islamiat, marking a significant step forward.
A landmark achievement occurred on January 5, 2013. On this date, the Punjab Assembly passed legislation that officially upgraded the college to a public sector university. The transformation into a full-fledged university commenced on March 18, 2013, when Prof. Dr. Nizamuddin joined as the first Acting Vice Chancellor and Founder.
GCWUS Sialkot upholds strong academic values. It maintains high teaching standards and strict discipline without compromise. Graduates of the university emerge as leaders in ethical, intellectual, and professional domains across the nation.
Since becoming a university, GCWUS has consistently aimed to enhance the quality of higher education. It has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with various national universities and industries. Additionally, it has established academic linkages with international institutions across diverse fields.
