Ghazi University, Dera Ghazi Khan stands as a beacon of education for Southern Punjab. Its establishment marked a significant advancement in Pakistan’s journey toward expanding higher education. Strategically located in the heart of the city, near Pull Daat and College Chowk, the university has become a symbol of aspiration for local learners. Widely appreciated across various platforms, it fulfills a long standing dream of educational access in the region. The Government of Punjab formally established the university through legislative action in 2012. However, it began operating as a fully functional institution on June 11, 2014.
As the only major higher education institute in this remote part of Southern Punjab, Ghazi University meets vital academic needs. It offers diverse programs in Agricultural Sciences, Arts, and Social and Natural Sciences, serving students from underdeveloped districts such as Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, and Rajanpur.
Currently, Ghazi University affiliates with 25 colleges across the D.G. Khan Division, enrolling over 9,000 students. Plans are underway to expand both infrastructure and academic offerings to better serve neighboring regions, including parts of Balochistan and Sindh.
