Dow University of Health Sciences began in Hyderabad, Pakistan, as a modest medical school initially offering only the LSMF qualification. In 1941, before Independence, the Indian Medical Council introduced uniform medical education standards across the region. Consequently, many medical schools were either upgraded to university status or phased out entirely.

The Sindh Legislature later passed an act to officially establish Dow University of Health Sciences. This act integrated Dow Medical College, Sindh Medical College, and the Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases under its umbrella. Over time, Dow built a strong regional and international reputation for producing top-tier medical professionals.

As Pakistan’s largest and most inclusive health sciences institution, Dow sets a benchmark in education and clinical excellence. Its long standing leadership stems from the significant contributions of its faculty, staff, and students worldwide.
