Baba Guru Nanak University (BGNU) is a public institution located in District Nankana Sahib, Punjab, Pakistan. The university aims to accommodate 10,000 to 15,000 students from various parts of the world. The Prime Minister of Pakistan laid the foundation stone on October 28, 2019, in commemoration of Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary. On July 2, 2020, the Government of Punjab officially approved the establishment of Baba Guru Nanak University, Nankana Sahib.

An initial allocation of PKR 6 billion has been earmarked for the university’s construction. This budget will be utilized across three phases. The Communication and Works Department of the Punjab Government has already initiated development activities on site.

The university plans to open admissions for the Fall Semester of 2024. Academic sessions will begin as outlined in the 2024 academic calendar. The syndicate has already finalized the course outlines and curricula for the approved departments.

Additionally, BGNU has introduced a Centre of Excellence dedicated to Baba Guru Nanak and Sikh Cultural Heritage. The university has also established a dedicated academic Chair focused on Punjab Studies.
