The Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Lahore was established in 1973 within King Edward Medical College. Its goal was to provide postgraduate education and training to doctors in clinical and basic subjects. This college is the fifth public sector medical college in the city. It is affiliated with Lahore General Hospital, and its students are taught by PGMI’s experienced faculty.
The PGMI faculty suggested the name of the college to honor the services of Professor Dr. Ameer-ud-Din, the Emirates Professor of Surgery. In 1974, they officially established Medical College in the Experimental Medicine Department of King Edward Medical College and Lahore General Hospital.
Ameer-ud-Din College aimed to provide postgraduate education in clinical and basic disciplines. The opening of new medical colleges highlighted the shortage of medical teachers, especially in basic medical sciences.
