Established in 1989, the Institute of Industrial Electronics & Engineering (IIEE) Karachi was founded as a collaborative effort between the governments of Pakistan and Switzerland. Its development was supervised by the Ministry of Science & Technology and the Pakistan Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR) to bridge the gap between traditional engineering education and practical industry focused learning.
At the time, Pakistan’s industrial sector lagged behind as the country primarily focused on agriculture. Meanwhile, other nations experienced rapid industrial growth. Recognizing this need, IIEE was established as Pakistan’s first and Asia’s second institute to offer a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Electronics Engineering. Its mission is to contribute to industrial development and position Pakistan as a competitive player in the global technology landscape.
The program blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on training, ensuring graduates develop the practical skills required for industrial automation, electronic system design, and advanced technological solutions. Coursework includes laboratory experiments, research initiatives, and industrial internships, providing students with real-world exposure.
Additionally, students gain proficiency in microcontrollers, embedded systems, and renewable energy technologies, preparing them for careers in diverse sectors such as manufacturing, automation, and scientific research.
Facilities and Student Activities
IIEE Karachi equips students with state-of-the-art laboratories specializing in electronics, power systems, and control automation, allowing them to apply their learning in practical scenarios.
The institute also features a comprehensive library, supporting academic research and studies. To enhance students’ learning experiences, IIEE regularly organizes:
- Technical seminars
- Workshops
- Industry visits
Student led societies foster an environment of collaboration, encouraging participation in competitions, innovation projects, and extracurricular activities.
Institutional Affiliation
The NED University of Engineering & Technology (NEDUET), Karachi, a chartered engineering university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), affiliates with IIEE Karachi. The affiliation, granted in 1993, ensures that IIEE graduates receive degrees accredited by a highly respected institution.
Campus Facilities
Auditorium
IIEE houses a fully air-conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 244, used for academic events, conferences, and student activities.
Scholarship Opportunities
IIEE actively supports its students through merit and need based scholarships. The IIEE Student Welfare Fund provides financial assistance to deserving students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic success. The institution must process scholarship applications.
Sports and Recreation
The school enthusiastically hosts an annual sports week, allowing students to compete in both indoor and outdoor sports. Additionally, the institute also provides a dedicated playground for extracurricular activities.
Masjid
A mosque is located within the institute’s premises, offering a convenient space for students and staff to perform prayers.
