Historical Perspective
Origins in Technical Education
UET Rasul’s legacy dates back to 1873, beginning as the School of Surveying at the University Oriental College, Lahore. As one of the earliest technical education institutes in South Asia, it followed in the footsteps of the College of Civil Engineering, Roorkee (India), founded in 1847. However, The institution played a key role in advancing engineering education in the subcontinent.
Relocation to Rasul
In 1912, the authorities relocated the Government School of Engineering to its current site in Rasul, District Mandi Bahauddin, near the old Rasul Barrage. Moreover, The school’s original buildings were initially barracks constructed during the British era. To house Indian prisoners working on the Rasul Barrage and Upper Jhelum Canal projects.
Upgrading to University
After multiple unsuccessful attempts, the Provincial Assembly of Punjab officially upgraded the Government College of Technology, Rasul, to a full fledged university by passing the University of Rasul Act on May 16, 2018. Moreover, The Governor of Punjab approved the act on May 21, 2018. It was formally published in the Punjab Gazette on May 24, 2018.
