Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) is a prestigious public research university in Jamshoro, Sindh. Originally known as Sindh University Engineering College, it initially awarded degrees in affiliation with Sindh University. In 1973, it was granted the status of an independent engineering university and later evolved into a full-fledged institution.

Mehran University has shown tremendous growth since its inception. Its first batch consisted of just 450 students. Today, it provides education to over 75 hundred students, with around 6 thousand undergraduates, thousand postgraduates, and 70 plus doctoral candidates.

Strategically located near Karachi, a major industrial and economic center, MUET is easily accessible. Students from Jamshoro, Hyderabad, and Karachi can conveniently reach the campus due to its ideal position.

The MUET Central Library holds an extensive collection of over 180,700 books, spanning various fields of Engineering, Science, and Technology. Additionally, the Book Bank offers more than 32,000 textbooks, allowing students to borrow them for a full term at a minimal rental fee. To maintain academic relevance, faculty members regularly recommend new additions, ensuring an up to date and high quality collection.

Digital Library and Online Access

Through the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Digital Library Program, students and faculty can explore over 15,000 electronic journals. Most of these journals offer full text access, ensuring easy availability of the latest research and academic insights.

The library catalog is fully computerized and integrated with the Library of Congress Gateway. This system provides a seamless search experience for books, full text journals, and other digital resources.

Research Assistance

MUET Library extends its services beyond its own collection through inter library loans. Students and faculty can borrow materials from national and international libraries as needed. Additionally, researchers can request photocopies of technical articles from external sources.

For depth research, the library collaborates with technical information centers across Pakistan. It also partners with Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation to promote knowledge sharing among Muslim countries.

Each study area is equipped with power points for laptop use, and WIFI is accessible throughout the building. Additionally, the Online Information Center houses 40 computers for digital resource access. Provided by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), these resources include open source electronic materials and IT training programs for community development.

Scholarships

Established in 2006 in collaboration with HEC Islamabad, the Student Scholarship Office is dedicated to its mission. It strives to remove financial obstacles and ensure that under privileged students have access to higher education.
